Ring Me in the Open Thread - Makeup and Beauty Blog

Well, information technology's official. I'm 100% NOT ready for the weekend to end.

Information technology's but that I had such a good time in Napa yesterday (with the exception of the mud bath!) that it's making me dread Monday morning. Two of my all-time girlfriends from babyhood, Jen and Cindy, went up with me, and we began the adventure with snacks at Dean & DeLuca, a fancy shmancy market in a little boondocks called St. Helena. I had the gigantic bread ring in the picture at the top.

From there it was over to Castello di Amorosa Winery in neighboring Calistoga, a town at the northern end of the Napa Valley, for a tour and tasting.

The castle's relatively new… How oft does ane say that? — "The castle's relatively new." It's a replica of a real 1 in Tuscany; I have to assume that one'south a lot older. 🙂

Mark, our guide, gave united states a tour of the grounds, throwing in tidbits about the winemaking process and ancient castles, of which he knew A LOT!

As one often does after wine tasting, I left with a slight buzz and a renewed appreciation for modern plumbing (did you know Medieval moats were used for sewage?).

The wine got us ready for our next stop, the Indian Springs Spa, also in Calistoga. I didn't really have pics of the spa expanse (lots of nekkid ladies milling virtually), but the identify looked pretty absurd until I saw where they practise the mud baths.

Based on the website, I expected blissful and relaxing, only…

The tubs were these huge concrete troughs lined up side past side in a large noisy room that looked a fiddling like a befouled. Once you lot disrobed, you laid back in your own trough, which was like being suspended in a hot, goopy vat of black tapioca pudding. I couldn't really motion my arms or legs in information technology, which fabricated me anxious (I get a petty claustrophobic), so I just laid at that place sweating similar Keith, with my optics closed and my heart racing, for an eternal 10 minutes.

It was all worth it, though, because after the bath and the peepshow shower (no doors!), I had a peachy deep tissue massage and a relaxing hour spent lounging past the pool.

All in all, a great day. 🙂

I don't go to very many spas (in one case a year if I'chiliad lucky), but I wish I could become more.

Do you spa?
  1. What were your best and worst spa treatments?
  2. How practice you feel about PDNs (public displays of nekkidness!) at spas?
  3. Tin can you lot recommend a great spa?

Oh, and if you're new to the open thread, welcome! Information technology'southward just a chat session where we talk virtually whatever strikes our fancy in the comments. Please pop in and say hi. You could ask a dazzler question, talk most movies, TV, or just share what'southward new with you.

See you lot soon!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
